Unlocked Potential

By combining the expertise of game design and biomedical art, SeeLife makes biofeedback effective and accessible for general school aged children.

The problem

The solution

Children have difficulty with mindfulness and self-regulating their emotions. Additionally, they are experiencing so many emotions for the first time and do not know how to handle or describe them. Biofeedback is a highly effective therapy for learning mindfulness, but unfortunately far too boring for kids.

Combine gamification of biofeedback with artistic expertise to capture a child's attention to make the therapy successful.

so now what?

Make it fun!

Wait. What is biofeedback?

How does it work?

Biofeedback is the practice of bringing awareness to physiological activity, which allows the player to learn how to control things such as heart rate. It has been used for decades as meditation and treatment for a variety of medical conditions. Once the technique is mastered it becomes a skill that can be used in daily life as naturally as riding a bike.

Elements of the game change according to the player's heart rate. For example, the water gets darker as heart rate rises. This allows the player  to "see" it, learn it, and therefore control it.

SeeLife's Potential

There are endless benefits to learning how to stay calm. Why not learn it early, when young minds are the most adaptable? It has rarely been done at this age because biofeedback is based solely on patient participation. There are no drugs, and no side effects. A young child simply does not actively seek out how to learn natural heart rate control, nor do they have the attention span for traditional therapy. A background in both game design and biomedical art are rarely combined to gamify biofeedback, but together create the potential for a tool that reaches kids.

So can I see the game?
